Flank steak is a popular choice for stir-frying, and for good reason. This cut of beef is known for its rich flavor and tenderness when cooked properly. Sourced from the abdominal muscles of the cow, flank steak is relatively lean, making it a healthier option compared to other cuts. When sliced against the grain, it becomes incredibly tender, providing a satisfying bite that pairs beautifully with the crisp vegetables in this dish.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccolini or broccoli florets

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

2 teaspoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ginger, minced

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1/2 cup beef broth

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, mix the sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of black pepper. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, beef broth, sugar, and a dash of salt and pepper. Set aside.

Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Broccoli: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger; sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then add the broccolini or broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until tender-crisp.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and toss everything together. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and broccoli evenly.

Serve: Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for a finishing touch.
