Ingredients

4 slices of thick French bread or brioche

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for the pan)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons maple syrup (for topping)

Fresh fruits (strawberries, bananas, or blueberries for garnish)

Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the unsalted butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.

Dip each slice of French bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated. Let any excess mixture drip off.

Place the coated slices onto the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar with a splash of water to create a paste. Once the French toast is cooked, sprinkle this mixture over the slices while still in the skillet.

Let the sugar caramelize for about 1-2 minutes without moving the bread. You’ll know it’s ready when you see bubbles forming and the sugar has turned a golden caramel color.

Carefully flip the French toast to allow the caramelized side to face up. Remove from the skillet.

Serve the caramelized French toast warm, drizzled with maple syrup, garnished with fresh fruits, and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
