Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

8 small corn or flour tortillas

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

½ cup pickled jalapeños (optional)

½ cup mayonnaise

1 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp mustard

Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Toppings: In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard to create a delicious burger-inspired sauce. Set aside. Chop the lettuce and tomatoes for topping.

Form the Beef Patties: In a large bowl, season the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Divide the beef into 8 equal portions and loosely roll them into balls. Do not overwork the meat.

Cook the Patties: Heat a cast-iron skillet or a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add a little oil to coat the bottom. Place the beef balls into the skillet, giving enough space between them.

Smash the Patties: Using a sturdy spatula, press down firmly on each ball to create thin patties. Cook for about 2-3 minutes without moving them until they develop a nice crust.

Flip and Finish: Flip the patties, and cook for another 2 minutes until they are browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and let them rest for a minute.

Warm the Tortillas: In the same skillet, warm the tortillas for about 30 seconds on each side until they are pliable.

Assemble the Tacos: Place a cooked smash burger patty on each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños, if using. Drizzle the sauce over the top.

Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired. Serve immediately with your favorite hot sauce on the side.
