Ingredients

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1/2 cup milk (or non-dairy alternative)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Extra cinnamon sugar (2 tbsp sugar + 1/2 tsp cinnamon, mixed) for dusting

Instructions

Begin by preparing your apples. Wash them thoroughly, then core and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Remove the seeds carefully to avoid any unpleasant crunch.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and granulated sugar until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the apple rings but still pourable.

Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises, you’re good to go.

Dip each apple ring into the batter, ensuring it's nicely coated. Carefully place it in the hot oil.

Fry the apple rings in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

While they are still warm, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the fried apple rings for a sweet and spicy finish.

Serve the fried cinnamon apple rings warm, paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for indulgence!
