Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1½ cups warm water (110°F or 45°C)

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons salt

3 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for brushing)

5 cloves garlic, minced

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried parsley

Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Salt to taste

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt. Once the yeast is frothy, pour it into the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle small amounts of flour until manageable.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.

Shape the Knots: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long, then tie it into a knot. Tuck the ends underneath the knot.

Second Rise: Place the knots on a greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, oregano, parsley, and a pinch of salt.

Bake the Knots: Once the knots have risen, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Finishing Touch: Remove the knots from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. If desired, sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top while they are still warm.

Serve: Allow the knots to cool slightly, then serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy your soft, fluffy homemade garlic knots!
