Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup diced fresh strawberries (optional)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Prepare the Rolls: Cut each of the Sweet Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the greased baking dish. Layer the crushed pineapple and diced strawberries evenly over the bottom halves.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined and smooth.

Assemble the Bake: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls, making sure to soak them well. Gently press down the tops of the rolls so they are fully submerged in the custard. Optionally, sprinkle shredded coconut on top.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Cool and Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar before serving and drizzle with maple syrup for an extra touch of sweetness.
