Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups (160g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar, whisking until well mixed.

        - Add the eggs and vanilla, stirring until combined and smooth.

          - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix just until combined; be careful not to over-mix.

            - Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, then set the mixture aside.

              Prepare the Cookie Layer:

                - In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.

                  - Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

                    - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

                      - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Layering:

                          - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly on the bottom.

                            - Dollop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to gently spread the cookie dough to cover the brownie layer without completely mixing them.

                              Bake:

                                - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                                  - Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes, then carefully lift them out using the parchment (if used) to cool completely on the rack.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Cut into squares and enjoy your fudgy, chewy browkies! Serve warm or at room temperature, and consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for an extra indulgence.
